MineShaft's AC Daytime Entertainment GuideRevised July 13, 2003ANGELES CITY -- Most visitors to Angeles City rarely visit more than Fields Avenue and its nearby areas. This is a shame because the area has much to offer aside from its nightlife. You will not find tourist attractions on a par with the likes of famed destinations like Bangkok but there are many diversions that are worth a look. This list is far from exhaustive but it acts as a good beginning. Amusement Places Bowling Family Super Lanes

Grooming Grooming? HUh? One of my favorite things to do in AC is to get indulge in services that are prohibitively expensive back home. For the princely sum of about P50 plus tip, you can enjoy either a barbershop shave or manicure at one of the local barber shops or beauty parlors. Be careful on the shave though. Some of the barbers in Angeles haven't sharpened their straight edge since the GIs left a decade ago. For example, avoid the shave at the Clark AirBase Barber Shop next to RUMPA. Trust me, you'll spend a couple of days recovering from those bastards. Two barber shops I can recommend are the Balibago Barber Shop and the barber on Santos St. The Balibago Barber Shop is on Macarthur at the corner of Fields and Macarthur. The guy on Santos St. is in the heart of Blow Row on the much-feared "left side". If you get to Shadows, you walked too far. The other nice thing about the guy on Santos St. is some of the Santos bargirls hang out in there to take advantage of the aircon. I suppose an interesting combination service could be arranged if you were interested. Historical Sites Bale Matua - Located at the heart of Sto. Rosario - the center of Angeles City, this residence of the founder of the city Pantaleon de Miranda and dona Rosalia de Jesus was constructed in 1824. It is made of high stone wall and an ornate gate. Post Office Building - Located at Sto. Rosario, this concrete building
was utilized by the U.S. Army as a jail for recalcitrant U.S. troops in
1899-1901. It
Pamintuan Residence - This building served as the Central Headquarters
for Major General Douglas McArthur in May 1899. It served as the seat of
the First Philippine Revolutionary government under General Emilio Aguinaldo,
president and commander in-chief. It now houses the Central Bank of the
Philippines in Angeles City which is across the Sto. Rosario church along
Sto. Entierro Street.
Museum Clark Museum
Features the history of the US military in the Philippines, Philippine
military History, also local history and a Mount pinatubo exhibit
Movies As with many things in the Philippines, attending a movie can be a strange experience. They sometimes start the showing of a movie with the second half and follow with the first half. As always, they have some sort of bizarre logic that explains all this. Call ahead to find out when the first half starts. I would recommend Rick's Café for movies but I always get mosquito bites when I go in that place. Imperial Cinema
Jade Cinema
Nepo Mall
Personal Services Spa (No Hanky-Panky) Bio-Jemnastic Fitness Center
Danielli European Spa
Kristal Spa
Shopping The Barratillos-cheap crap the likes of which you cannot imagine. If you really want a native experience go to one of these open air "flea markets". There are several of them around town. Hop on a jeepney and have honey ko take you. Saver's Mall-a lot of cellphone crap
Jenra Grand Mall-decent local mall for clothes, etc.
Nepo Mart-Ralph Lauren would have a heart attack. Find your favorite
fake designer label here.
SM/Robinson's Malls-San Fernando
Sports-Active Fishing Expeditions Dream Treks
Golf Air Force City Golf Course
Balibago Social Golf Club
Hidden Vale (formerly Greenlands)
Mariana Hills Golf Course
Mimosa Country Club.
Gyms Several gyms can be joined on a temporary basis for visitors to Angeles City. In addition, some hotels such as the Clarkton and the Sunset Garden have their own workout facilities. Iron Works Gym
Holiday Inn, Clark-Sells monthly memberships
Power Gym
Running/Hashing The Angeles Hash House Harriers ("The Drinking Club with a Running Problem") have a hash (organized run) every Sunday, starting at the Anchorage Inn on Real St. November through April the runs begin at 3PM; May through October the runs begin at 4PM. Evidently, there is a second hash group in AC called the "Angeles Beach" Hash House Harriers. Their runs are generally on Saturdays but the schedule is less structured. Scuba Diving "How the hell are you going to scuba dive in Angeles", you might ask. A local dive master offers PADI Open Water Certification classes with the "classroom" and confined water portions being held in local hotel pools with the "Open Water" portion requiring a two day trip to Subic for completion. The price is reasonable too. If you get four people together for lessons, the training is only $220 each including equipment and dive costs. Transportation to Subic and lodging extra. Johan's Adventure Dive Center
Tennis El Rancho Tennis Club
El Rancho has three clay courts and is open to all comers for a modest fee. On Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, there are open men's doubles starting at 8:00AM. P100 covers your play. Balls are provided. Public Tennis Courts
Sports-Spectator Cockfights Find a Filipino bodyguard and go check out the action. Don't go alone. This is a major sport in the Philippines. There are fights every day in one of the many arenas around town. There is betting on every fight. One of the reasons to bring a local with you is to explain the betting to you. The other reason is to keep you from doing something that will get you killed. Drag Racing Angeles Hot Rod Association holds races on Clark the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month.
