Angeles Fried Chicken

In my quest to find more good places to eat, I heard from a few locals of this place called Angeles Fried Chicken. This place actually nicknames itself A.F.C. I have been visiting there quite regularly and have grown attached to the place.

The interior is typical 70's style shabby brown in a large room with the requisite aquarium in the corner. They have a beautiful French-style glassed-in patio/solarium as you enter the outer door, before the main dining room. When the sunshine is not beating on that side of the building, it is a perfect place to sit. The interior air con is excellent. The coldest part of the room is immediately to your right, beside the aquarium.

The staff is smartly bow-tied, red-vested, and very professional. As I have discovered lately, many of these establishment's accessory menu items are sometimes better than their namesake offering.

The fried chicken is available as standard or extra crispy, and is quite good. Its juicy and tender and thankfully not overcooked. Personally, my fussy taste buds found the coating a bit on the bland side, but I think most will like it very much, as it is not too salty like KFCs coating. A 2 piece "snack" is only 75 peso and wings are only 95 peso, both come in portion sizes which are perfect for one person.

The other winners on the chicken menu are Chicken BBQ (105p) Whole Roast Chicken (175p ! consider the street-sold Lechon is already 130 p and its only takeout) Grilled Chicken (105) and Breaded Chicken (105). Another smashing dish is the Pepper Liver Steak (125p) which is mouth-watering and smothered with crushed black peppercorns.

This place just simply amazes me with the breadth of their menu. Appetizers list Drunken Shrimp, Shrimp Cocktail, Sizzling Squid, and French Fried Mushrooms (awesome!). They have a full stable of steaks, including Porterhouse, T-bone, Filet Mignon, Tenderloin, and the only New York Steak (Strip loin with fat cap) I have found yet in AC, all for about 275 peso.

The seafood selection is also nice, boasting Shrimp with Cashew Nuts (155), Shrimp Curry (to die for, also 155p) and Grilled Fish Steak (145). Other nice items is their 55 peso (!) Cheeseburger, perhaps the best Onion Rings (58p) in AC. If you like fried rice, you will absolutely love their signature AFC Fried Rice dish. (78p) Drinks run from 26 to 33 peso. Ice cream is only 35 peso. It is a Cheap Charlie's paradise with High Roller taste, quality and service. Trying to impress the "Pamily" with your good taste without looking like a money-bag? AFC is your destination.

They even have a terrific breakfast menu featuring EIGHT different kind of omelets for only 95 peso. The standard breakfast package is 105 peso. I have been moonlighting here for B-fast as a sometimes change from Rumpa.

The service is exemplary and the staff really goes the extra mile to please. Naturally, being a local family-oriented restaurant, rules of dress code etiquette apply when bringing female "companions" to AFC.

Angeles Fried Chicken is located at:

1992 Marlim Blvd. Diamond Subd

Directly across the street from Saver's Mall, one small block in. It's on the left-hand corner of the first street in from MacArthur Hwy..
