A
Agasya (formerly Golden Gate, Halloween, Amore): Open 09/2004. Korean owner. Bar fine P1200. "I don't usually do bar reviews - living in AC does that to ya - but what the hell... I guess the first clue that I wasn't gonna love the place was the name? G-d only knows how to pronounce it! Sort of like Bananitas, where I alwa/ys get a kick out of the door girls trying to pronounce the name... Anyway, I strolled into the place last night. Can you say airplane hanger? Can you say warehouse chic? I was ASSAULTED immediately by an ear-bleed level blast of the techno-teenbopper-rap-braindead noise that passes for "music" in some clubs. As is often the case, the bass was cranked up to about 11 on speakers THAT JUST CAN'T HANDLE the volume...my clothing and entire body started to vibrate. And if you've SEEN my body, this is NOT a pretty sight! Strike one. The place was FREEZING. Not just cold - or uncomfortable - but MEAT-HANGING-FREEZING. Strike two. Though frozen and deaf, I perservered and stepped further inside. Can you say Vegas Casino Showroom? I really only noticed the Vegas-style showroom-booth seating fronting the stage...the stage itself has a few risers, with girls displayed on tiers. The booths are so far away from the stage that you would need a flare gun or space-station-strength laser beam to get a dancers attention. Strike three. I beat a hasty retreat. Now I can't remember the last time I walked into a joint and didn't stay for at least one beverage and a LOOK at the available nubiles...so maybe I missed something? Maybe at the bar on the side and the seats way way way in the back things are happening that I didn't know about? I fled to the safety of Champagne, where my two Cherry Girls made it all better." crumple (09/2004). "My favorite bar is Agasya. In Korean, Agasya means girl. Most people won’t like the bar because it’s very hard to interact with the girls. The bar gives me a fishbowl feeling as you have to ask the waitress/mamasan to bring any girl over. Barfine is 1500 peso before 11pm and 1200 peso after 11pm. I went there every day but didn’t barfine any girl. The mamasan (young one) and the waitress are a lot of fun. I think the lineup is excellent." Gilbert (10/2004)

After Dark (formerly Private Dancer, Mirage): Closed. The space it occupied was added to Insomnia.

Alaska Club (formerly Bahama Mama's, Byrd Cage): Open 05/17/2005.

Angels Club (formerly Papillon): New owner in 2004. P1200 bar fine. "I have visited the new Angel Bar (Old Papillon) opposite from the DMZ Bar three times recently and have been pleasantly surprised! There was no drink pressure whatsoever, all the waitresses and girls were very friendly, and the Papasan, Gary, bought me a round every time. They have some cute girls here to choose from. I didn't find the exact model I was looking for, but I did buy a ladies drink or two and had some nice conversation. Oh, they serve fresh (free) popcorn with your drink." SuperLurker (02/2002). "My goodness, what happened to this place since it changed from Papillon. I walked in there to be greeted by an old mamasan from Confetti's and presented with a stage of absolute stunners. Was in here with Insomnia's Andrew who stated, 'This place has turned into a real fucking bar, wooooooooh'. It's well worth a look." FA (03/2002). "Some model quality women here but most seem to be cherry. Be sure and ask first before paying for a lady's drink. Then when I thought I was home free with one drop dead beauty, she at the 11th hour claimed incapacitation by mense and not available for barfine. I sought greener pastures and never went back." Patrick (04/2003)

Apollo Bar: Located on A. Santos Street. 8 girls. The barfine pressure is very high here. "The lesbian mamasan here can be aggressive with pushing her girls. The girls are a mixed bag. At least one is a pearl. There's no short time facilities at this bar and the girls expect to be taken out for a couple hours." Patrick (04/2003)

Aqua Hut: Located on A. Santos Street. A couple of locals have rented it and turned it into a party house. They hold irregular BBQs on Sunday afternoons where they invite the Santos girls. It's a ton of fun.

Ayer's Rock (formerly Thunderstruck): Renamed Kangaroo Jack's, later converted into a Mexican restaurant called El Coyote's. (11/2004)
